When to Call Immediately

• Sudden severe abdominal pain — especially upper right quadrant
• Vomiting blood or passing black/tarry stools (variceal bleeding)
• Rapid-onset jaundice — yellowing of skin or eyes within hours/days
• Confusion or altered consciousness in a patient with known liver disease (hepatic encephalopathy)
• Massive abdominal swelling with breathing difficulty
• Known liver transplant patient with fever, graft tenderness, or sudden deterioration
