FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Liver Transplant in India — Your Questions Answered
What is the cost of liver transplant in India?
The total liver transplant cost in India at Dhaara Speciality Hospital ranges from ₹15 to ₹35 lakhs, depending on whether it is a living donor or deceased donor transplant, ICU duration, and any complications. This is significantly more affordable than equivalent centres in Delhi (₹40–60L) or Mumbai (₹35–55L), and 3–5 times more affordable than transplant in the USA or UK.
What is the success rate of liver transplant in India?
At experienced Indian centres including Dhaara, the 1-year patient survival rate is 85–92% and the 5-year survival rate is 75–80%. These figures match international benchmarks and reflect advances in surgical technique, immunosuppression, and multidisciplinary post-transplant care now available in India.
Can patients from Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad travel to Bangalore for liver transplant?
Yes — a large proportion of Dr. Srinivas Bojanapu’s patients are from outside Bangalore. Delhi is 2.5 hours by air, Mumbai 1.5 hours, and Hyderabad 1 hour. Our team provides airport pickup, accommodation assistance, dedicated patient coordinator, insurance facilitation, and post-discharge tele-follow-up so patients can return home after stable recovery.
Is living donor liver transplant (LDLT) safe for the donor?
Yes. When performed at an experienced centre, donor mortality is less than 0.5% — lower than many other major elective surgeries. Most donors return to full activity within 6–8 weeks. The donor’s remaining liver regenerates to approximately 85–90% of its original volume within 6–8 weeks. Dr. Bojanapu performs minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) donor hepatectomy wherever possible to further reduce donor morbidity.
Is liver transplant covered by insurance in India?
Yes. Most comprehensive health insurance policies in India (sum insured ₹10L+) cover liver transplant. Government schemes — Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, CGHS, ECHS, Arogyasri (Telangana/AP) — also provide coverage. Our billing team assists all patients with pre-authorisation and claim documentation from day one of admission.
How do I get a second opinion on my liver transplant case?
Share your medical reports, CT/MRI, biopsy, and MELD score with us via WhatsApp (+91 9690 729690) or email (globallivercare@gmail.com). Dr. Srinivas Bojanapu personally reviews complex cases and provides a written opinion within 48 hours. Tele-consultation is available for patients anywhere in India.
